In November 2015, the FDA approved ThermiSmooth 250 for smoothing wrinkles, eliminating facial lines, shrinking fatty areas, and contouring the body. ThermiSmooth uses radiofrequency energy to gently heat the tissue below the skin surface which promotes new collagen growth and increases the local blood supply. The therapeutic temperature range is maintained throughout the treatment with careful monitoring.
Unlike Botox or "fillers," ThermiSmooth treatment does not involve injecting foreign substances or toxins into the body. It is less expensive than Botox or fillers and requires less frequent maintenance. The treatment is comfortable; it feels like a hot stone massage. There is no downtime. After a treatment, you can resume your normal activities. The treated area may be slightly pink for an hour or two. Then, normal coloring returns. The look is natural. It does not paralyze the muscles and it allows for normal facial expression.
ThermiSmooth is more subtle than a facelift. It can safely be used to smooth out wrinkles around the eyes, decrease sagging skin above the eyes, and decrease bags or puffiness underneath the eyes. It can also smooth out lines around the mouth.
ThermiSmooth may be used to lift and tighten sagging skin on the face, under the chin, or in the neck area. Even if a woman exercises and has strong biceps and triceps muscles, after a certain age, she may still have lax tissue under her upper arms. ThermiSmooth can reduce this loose skin. Other common uses are to shrink poufy areas such as a fat pad in the lower abdomen, fatty areas under bra straps, or in the upper inner thigh area. ThermiSmooth also smooths wrinkles that occur just above the cleavage line, a frequent site of sun damage.
